Valentine’s Day is around the corner… and you know what that means? It means its about time to knock his socks (among other things..) off.
I’m talking boudie aka boudoir photographs aka the-best-present-he’ll-ever-get! Boudie doesn’t have to be scary. It should be amazing. Remember that feeling from your wedding day? (Or any other time you were dressed to the nines?) Remember how amazingly beautiful and, well, powerful, you felt? THAT is boudoir.
A solid boudoir photographer will work with you to find poses and lighting that makes you look AWESOME – size 2 or 22 or whatever size you are. It’s NOT about being perfect.
Here are some little tidbits collected for your perusing pleasure:

You’ve booked your session. You’re pumped up! Now — what will you wear? Choose outfits and items that are YOU! I guess it could be a good time to let your inner goddess try out a new style, but what your man wants to see (honestly…) is the bombshell YOU. When you look back on these amazing pictures where you’re 70 you’ll want to recognize the woman behind the gorgeous wardrobe and set. Be yourself! In general, for any photo session, well fitting garments are a must – for a boudie session, it’s even more imperative that your clothing choices fit well. You’ll be cutting all the tags out anyway – so buy the size that doesn’t pull, bunch, ride, squeeze or leave marks. It won’t be pretty, I promise. On that note, it’s important to make choices that flatter your body. I have a major obsession with boy-shorts undies. I look terrible in them. I wear them under jeans so they are not detectable. If it doesn’t work, it doesn’t work. Save it to wear under your jeans. DOn’t forget to include something meaningful for you AND him… a pair of earrings, a work shirt, a little trinket (Holly always had a stuffed Puffin bird in her Playboy shoots as tribute to Hef) – and implied nudity – aka – being all wrapped up in a sheet – is, in my opinion, the BEST wardrobe option of all!
If I had to pick between professional hair and makeup for a boudie session I’d go with hair all the way! Love your locks and you’ll feel awesome. Don’t fight your natural hair. I’ll never have Karsadhian Kurls, but my hair can rock bigs and bed head like no other. Be specific with your stylist about your look. A quick google search of “sexy hair” will do wonders for your communication. DOn’t get stuck in a style that is stiff or doesn’t move – you want your hair to caress the pillow, flow over your shoulders, and be an integral part of the set. Don’t be afraid to play with your hair during your session!

The right makeup can take your session and images to the next level. Make your face glow – you don’t want a shiny, high gloss finish, but go for that dewey-radiant-in-love look. When in doubt, add a little more. Boudie shoots are by nature, a little more dramatic, right? Let your makeup reflect that. You should look like YOU, just a super glam and fabulous version of you! A few extra swipes of shadow, another coat of mascara – it’ll be perfect! Don’t let your eyes drop the ball – when you connect with the camera great eye makeup will make all the difference between a sizzling and smoldering you and just a snap-shot-you.
