I simply adore cake smashes and have a pretty successful track record for smashing images from my photography sessions. I love planning them, personalizing them, and get so excited to see the sweet birthday baby. The cake smash, although a new-ish trend, is a fantastic way to celebrate your baby’s first birthday and commemorate a fleeting moment in babyhood. I think it’s also a celebration of a successful year for Mom and Dad, too! There are so many places to get cake smash inspiration from – colors, trends, or a first birthday party theme.
When it came time to plan Petite’s session, I froze. (By the way, she’s STILL waiting on her 1 year portraits. I hope she still fits into her dress by the time I get around to it.) I knew I wanted it to be different, I knew that I wanted it to be a reflection of her sweet, girly personality, and I wanted it to be simple but not boring. I made a three layer cake and iced it with a scrumptious swiss meringue buttercream. Her tulle skirt was paired with a plain white puff sleeved tee and the piece de resistance was the beautiful hair petal that Melanie from Mayhar Designs crafted for her. And because I couldn’t decide which images were my favorite — here’s the whole shebang!
Thank you Jojo and BigToria for helping while I shot! It was hard to be the momma and the photographer! And don’t you just love the dainty little chunk she took out? And those little “tastes” … She’s my sweet girly girl!
