Doesn’t it seem like the giant birthday party trend is kind of out of control? Especially past, oh say, 21. First birthday – it’s a big deal. Then 16th. Then maybe 21st. Treat them as special.
Then there is 30. I have terribly mixed emotions about my quickly nearing three-oh. I want it to be special but do I want or need a big party? Nah. Unlike someone I happen to be married to. He falls in the IWANNABIGPARTY category – just as many of our friends do – and thats ok.
So imagine my sadness when we couldn’t pull together FMG’s fantasy Vegas 30th Birthday with his bff John (who is two days older). Oh, what I would have given to have won the lottery, or a sweepstakes with a Vegas trip as a prize, or something to make it happen. But life got in the way. So we made the best of it.
We just hung out and kept it low key. I made all the elements for burrito bowls and we watched the Aggies beat the snot out of Alabama. I truly don’t think that FMG could’ve received a better birthday present than that!
With one roll of crepe paper and one bag of balloons I managed to decorate the kitchen so it was appropriately festive for our football watching party.
FMG requested yellow cupcakes with chocolate icing. No complaints from the cook!
I made cones out of scrapbook paper to hang from the chandelier – they were supposed to look like party hats! Did I succeed?
The circle stickers are from Paper Source – I get so much use out of those!
And you KNEW there would be a monogram somewhere!
It wasn’t a big fancy shindig, but FMG still got spoiled! My brother was even in town to celebrate! We ate FMG’s favorite food, participated in his favorite activity (watching football), and the Aggies miraculously won. Vegas or not, we’ll always remember the 30.
