We DO birthdays around here – and I take great joy in our little family birthday parties. Petite had a very substantial role in FMG’s birthday theme this year – I told her to pick out some wrapping paper at HobLob and the mustaches it was! I couldn’t find a funny mustache pun to run with so, since he turned all of 31 years OOOOOOOOOld – “Happy Birthday, Old Chap” it was! I wish I could say that I made fish and chips or other English pub fare for dinner – but we had homemade enchiladas. There were ample bow ties, though!
Simple decorations can have a big impact – gold tissue paper and twine bunting, bow tie bedecked mustache wrapped presents, yummy red velvet cake in mason jars, and drawn-with-love-not-talent chalkboard.
I used what I had around the house to make the decorations – the only thing purchased was the wrapping paper! Black and white is a staple at our house (you knew that though) and the gold balloons and tissue paper were from Petite’s birthday party last year.
Doesn’t the cake plate look smashing with a mustache?
The balloons were even dressed for the occasion in their gold tissue paper bow ties.
Ok – I DID buy one other thing… the mustache appliqué for Petite’s shirt. It was with the iron-on letters at HobLob.
How could I resist?
She thought it was hilarious!
Our obligatory birthday picture – FMG had literally just come home from a road trip out of state to visit his best friend for HIS birthday – they were born a day apart! – so he was as tired as he looks. Happy Birthday, Old Chap!!
